TOP 8 BEERS AT BREW-HA-HA INDY 2016
We recently attended the 19th annual Brew-Ha-Ha in downtown Indianapolis. This event featured more than 50 craft breweries from all over the country, with strong Indiana representation. Of all the craft beer festivals in Indianapolis, this one is my favorite. It has a “block party” feel, as it takes place on Park Avenue in the Chatham Arch neighborhood. Park Avenue is a beautiful street, lined with historic homes and plenty of tall, mature trees, providing adequate shade on a warm summer day. Many people attended, but it is never oversold, so you can easily taste the beers you would like without standing in long lines, or worrying that by the time you get to their tent, the breweries will be out of beer.
This year there was live music and food vendors, including King David Dogs, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Punch Burger. There was also a stand to purchase water and pretzel necklaces, staples of any respectable brew festival. Proceeds from the event went the Phoenix Theatre.
Tickets were available for purchase online or at the event; however they were only accepting cash. There was also a VIP option that allowed people to enter one hour before the event started, but we opted for general admission because the lines are never too long and there is more than enough time to try everything.
- VIP: $50, includes sample glass and unlimited samples, entrance one hour earlier than general admission
- General Admission (Purchased in Advance): $30, includes sample glass and unlimited samples
- General Admission (Purchased Day-of Event): $35, includes sample glass and unlimited samples
- Designated Drivers: $10
Date: June 21, 2016
Time: 3:00-7:00 p.m. - VIP admission at 2:00 p.m.
Rain or shine, must be at least 21 to enter
We like all types of beer but it seems that we were more attracted to the Hefeweizens at this event. Nearly all of the breweries were pouring one, and they are a refreshing option on a warm day. It’s impossible to try everything so we focused on beers we had not tried before. Below is a list of our eight favorite beers we tasted at this event.
3703 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN 46545
Chamomile Wheat – ABV: 4.7%
My top pick of the day with a light citrus flavor mixed with honey and chamomile. Perfect summer beer!
1999 Citracado Parkway, Escondido, CA 92029
Stone Mocha IPA
Double IPA – ABV: 9%
Not too hoppy, with a little coffee and mocha
110 S Union Street, Westfield, IN 46074
Hefeweizen – ABV: 5%
Crisp, citrus, with a little bit of creaminess. Smells like bacon
5133 E 65th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220
Special K Kolsch
Kolsch – ABV: 5.5%
A little citrus with a bit of sweetness on the finish. A great summer patio beer

Pale Wheat Ale – ABV: 4.1%
Brewed with hibiscus flowers, fruity and a little tart
13 S Baldwin Street, Bargersville, IN 46106
